We’re
eco-friendly
and responsible

If you care about sustainability and corporate responsibility, we’re with you.

The architect’s brief from the start was to design the property sustainably, making environmental impacts a priority. Each step of the way, the resort was designed to make your stay a truly green experience.

Whether you just want to go whale watching on a cruise from Galle or Unawatuna, or visit the family-run turtle rescue operation, the Mahamodara Sea Turtle Hatchery, or have some other humanitarian or ecological purpose in mind, you can be confident that by supporting us you support our local Sri Lankan community. Like you, we care about the Earth and want a better planet for all. We have made a solid commitment to corporate social responsibility and a sustainable lifestyle.

Eco-aware visitors mustn’t miss these:

  • Roomassala Sanctuary.
Designated as a wildlife sanctuary, Roomassala Hill is a haven for both endemic and migratory birds and the perfect place for bird-watching enthusiasts.
  • Sinharaja Forest Reserve
The country’s last remaining tropical rainforest, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Kanneliya Rain Forest
Sri Lanka’s lesser-known forest reserve, intersected by two of the island’s main rivers.

CSR: We value our people

At Ilukketiya Tea Chalets we have made a solid commitment to our community through corporate social responsibility and sustainable living.

Some of the ways we contribute include:

  • helping to build the community we live in by providing employment opportunities and empowering the residents wherever we can by buying locally
  • engaging in community service projects such as sponsoring and managing shelters for the homeless senior citizens in the village and providing financial assistance to underprivileged school children in the area.

On your chalet’s rooftop you will see traditional coconut fronds. Coconut palms are probably the world’s most useful plant, and they suit the Sri Lankan culture. But we are making plans to change our rooftops to Iluk. This will contribute to the local roofing craftsmen as well as being a constant reminder of the spirit of of our name, Ilukketiya: ‘Being together in one place where the Iluk grows’.

We value our planet

We understand that there is no ‘Planet B’, so we are constantly improving and looking for ways to help the Earth we share to recover from past damage done and be fully sustainable.
We are, for example:

  • adopting sustainable and eco-friendly practices such as energy conservation, water conservation, recycling and waste reduction
  • phasing out all single-use plastics such as straws, cups, utensils and wrappings to eliminate plastic pollution that is detrimental to the environment.
